Lima, NY— Lima Christian School is pleased to present the musical Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Friday, March 11 at 7pm and Saturday, March 12 at 2pm and 7pm. The musical will take place at the Honeoye Falls-Lima high school auditorium in Honeoye Falls, NY.

The musical theatre powerhouse team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II collaborated to write a musical version of the classic fairytale Cinderella for live television in 1957. Starring an impressive young actress named Julie Andrews, their ninety-minute musical aired live on television and amassed an astonishing 107 million viewers across America. The musical was remade twice for television, first in 1965 for Lesley Ann Warren and again in 1997, featuring Brandy and Whitney Houston. The original Broadway production opened in 2013 and featured charming updates to the story. This show features an entirely new book, bringing Cinderella up to date without losing any of the fairy tale feel. It features some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”

“We wanted to produce a show that would make people smile,” explained director Bethany Warsaw. “People love these classic fairy tales because they remind us of our childhood, when life seemed simple, and magic was possible. Cinderella speaks to all walks of life. It appeals to anyone who has wished to be someone else, felt mistreated, chased a dream, wished for a new life, or stood up to adversity. When you know you are loved and accepted for who you are, you truly can do things you thought were impossible.”

The students and directors at Lima Christian School have been working hard to continue to create theatre since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The team produced Sherlock Holmes: The Baker Street Irregulars in the fall, despite Covid-19 restrictions. In December 2020 they live-streamed a production of Barbara Robinson’s famous children’s book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever for a virtual audience. In May 2021 they performed Pat Cook’s Barbecuing Hamlet, a farce about a community theatre group, for a socially-distanced live audience. The students are thrilled to join together again for this production.

“We’re thrilled that we can perform again,” said Warsaw. “High school theatre is special, and we don’t take this opportunity for granted.”

Masks will not be required at the performances, though they are still encouraged in large group events. Some rows of the auditorium will be sectioned off for guests wishing to maintain additional social distance.

Tickets are available at the school office, at the door, or online at www.seatyourself.biz/limachristian.
