Lima Christian School Moves To Next Stage Of Principal Search

Lima, NY—The Lima Christian School Board offers the following update regarding the search for its next principal.

Jason J. McGuire, chairman of the Board, said, “In May 2021, the Board appointed Mrs. Vicky Britton to serve as Interim Principal, while a national search for Lima Christian’s next principal commenced. The process has continued into the present Academic Year. While the Board has been in conversation with two national search agencies and has posted the opening on several search sites, we want to include our local community in the process as well. To that end, we are asking members of our community to share the Principal Job Description and Lima Christian’s Statement of Faith with interested parties in their circles of influence.”

McGuire continued, “The Board will be receiving applications through February 28, 2022. During March and April 2022, the Board will be winnowing the field of candidates through an interview process and seeking input from various constituencies within our community. We anticipate a final announcement regarding the new principal to be made in May 2022.”

“Since 1974, God has provided for all of Lima Christian’s leadership needs. I have no doubt He will continue to do so. The Board continues to encourage our community to ask the Lord to grant divine wisdom as we seek the individual the Lord has chosen to serve as Lima Christian’s next principal,” concluded McGuire.

Now Is The Time To Support Christian Education

Dear LCS Community,

At a time when the battle between light and darkness in our nation reaches a fever pitch, God continues to pour His blessing out on Lima Christian School. We stand firm on our focus to prepare our students to live in this world, but not of it, amongst cultural shifts, rising population fragmentation, and pandemic politicization.

It perhaps could not be more important in our modern world than now to give children a Christ centered education. For us, the biblical principles and learning surrounded by Jesus’s love are what set LCS apart. Our students are loved by faculty and learn how to lead through how God calls them into service in His name. Where God’s light shines, there can be no presence of darkness.

Each year, through the Lord’s leadership, our exceptionally generous LCS community has allowed us to stay on course, weather the storm, and grow during these turbulent times. Tuition affordability or financial aid for the families God brings to LCS is an area of great need at this present time. In addition, your gift will support the salaries of teachers whom God uses as a conduit for giving His love and education to our students. Thank you for standing with us, and please prayerfully consider making a generous tax-deductible gift to LCS to help enable us to continue to educate more children in His name.

Here are a few highlights of how God is moving powerfully in and through LCS:

  • We have 48 new students this year with additional families desiring to start immediately
  • Our Pre-K – 12 grade enrollment has risen to over 160
  • We have hired five new faculty members and increased our course offerings
  • Interest in our high school chorus and drama productions are at all-time highs
  • We have maintained in-person school five days per week

Praise be to God that He is bringing families to LCS and that we are growing. We cannot do this without Him and our community. I ask you to consider making a generous tax-deductible gift that enables LCS to continue ministering to students and preparing them for the future God has for them. Thank you for your prayerful consideration as we continue to reach for what God has in store for Lima Christian School during this most important time.

In Him,

Vicky Britton, M.A. CCC-SLP, Interim Principal

Lima Christian Drama Club to Present Sherlock Holmes Whodunit

Lima, NY— Lima Christian School is pleased to present the play, Sherlock Holmes: the Baker Street Irregulars on Friday, November 19, and Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 7:00 pm. The play will take place at the Honeoye Falls-Lima high school auditorium in Honeoye Falls, NY.

Adapted by Eric Coble, Sherlock Holmes: the Baker Street Irregulars is a play based on a series of graphic novels by Tony Lee and Dan Boultwood. In the show, Sherlock Holmes has gone missing, and crime floods the streets of London. Enter the Baker Street Irregulars, a group of street children hired occasionally by Sherlock to assist with cases. The group bands together not only to prove that Sherlock is still alive, but also to find the mayor’s missing daughter, untangle a murder mystery from their own past, and face the masked criminal mastermind behind it all—a bandit who just may be the brilliant but evil Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes’ archnemesis.

The group of street children that Sherlock Holmes himself termed “the Baker Street irregulars” appear in two of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books, A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four. Led by a boy named Wiggins, the children collect information that Holmes himself cannot. The name “Baker Street Irregulars” was also used by a Holmes literary society founded in 1934 by journalist Christopher Morley. In addition, the group has been the focus of various televisions shows, films, radio dramas, video games, board games, graphic novels, and stage plays such as the one Lima Christian School is producing.

“As theatre comes back from the Covid-19 pandemic, we wanted to produce a show that would appeal to young and older audiences,” explained director Bethany Warsaw. “This play has everything – iconic characters, mysteries, fight scenes on top of a train, even a little bit of romance. It’s a wonderful way to escape real life for a little while.”

The students and directors at Lima Christian School have been working hard to continue to create theatre despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The Baker Street Irregulars marks Lima Christian School’s third play since Covid canceled their planned production of Mary Poppins in March of 2020. In December 2020 they live-streamed a production of Barbara Robinson’s famous children’s book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever for a virtual audience. In May 2021 they performed Pat Cook’s Barbecuing Hamlet, a farce about a community theatre group, for a socially distanced live audience. The students are thrilled to join together again for this production despite the Covid precautions.

“There’s nothing like live theatre,” said Warsaw. “This past year we’ve discovered that you can watch theatrical productions online, but there’s nothing that compares to sitting in a dark theatre and experiencing a story with other people. I think we need the arts more now than ever to help us connect with each other, to share stories and experiences, especially as we begin to move past the pandemic and start focusing on healing and recovery.”

Masks will be required at the performances, regardless of vaccination status. Some rows of the auditorium will be sectioned off for guests wishing to maintain additional social distance.

For more information, call Lima Christian School at (585) 624-3841 or email Interim Principal Vicky Britton at vbritton@limachristian.org. Tickets are available at the school office, at the door, or online at www.seatyourself.biz/limachristian.

Lima Christian School To Hold Benefit Auction

School supported by the generosity and commitment of current families and alumni

Lima, NY—Lima Christian School is pleased to announce that this year’s benefit auction will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the school’s campus (1574 Rochester St., Lima, NY 14485).

Interim Principal Vicky Britton said, “It has not been easy, but we have kept our doors open to in-person instruction throughout the pandemic. Because of that, our students are academically, mentally, socially, and spiritually in a better place than many of their counterparts in public schools today. We give God the glory for all that has been accomplished during this period in our school’s history. We hope that this will inspire members of the community to consider supporting our upcoming benefit auction.”

The event offers a live and silent auction including gift cards, power tools, electronics, theme baskets, handmade goods and more. The event has become an annual pre-holiday shopping stop for locals. A partial listing of included items is listed at LimaChristian.org/Auction.

Childcare for children under 12 will be offered when the silent auction closes at 6:45 p.m. so everyone can attend the live auction at 7:15 p.m. A complementary baked potato bar and beverages will be available to attendees as well.

“The auction is our school’s largest fundraising event of the year. It’s a terrific time of community as both past alumni and present families come together to meet the school’s financial needs. This year’s event will support two of our priorities—keeping tuition affordable and increasing teacher salaries,” said Board Chairman Jason J. McGuire.

A Facebook event has been created for the auction on the school’s Facebook page.

Save the Date for the Auction

It has not been easy, but together we have kept our doors open to in-person instruction throughout the pandemic. We are so happy that Lima Christian continues to provide  a place for students that is academically, mentally, socially, and spiritually better than many of their counterparts in public schools today. We give God the glory for all that has been accomplished during this period in our school’s history and we are excited about the plans the Lord has for LCS!

We would like to invite you to join us for our live and silent benefit auction at Lima Christian School on Saturday, November 6, at 5:30 p.m. Childcare for children under 12 will be offered when the silent auction closes at 6:45 p.m. so everyone can attend the live auction at 7:15 p.m

For those who may be new to our school, the auction is our school’s largest fundraiser of the year. It’s also a terrific time of community as we come together to meet the school’s financial needs. This year’s event will support two of our priorities—keeping tuition affordable and increasing teacher salaries. You may recall that for the 2021-22 Academic Year, the Board instituted a tuition freeze to help our families during a challenging economic time. However, you may not be aware that we were also able to offer a much-needed salary increase to our faculty and staff. Do you know what? God honored our efforts to remember our families and our faculty by bringing 50 new students to Lima Christian this year!

Your support of our annual auction helps keep our tuition increases minimal. To be blunt, the better auction we have now, the less of a tuition increase we face next year. The participation of school families is key to the success of this fundraising event. There are four key ways your can help assure a successful event.

Donate An Item
The Board is requesting that each of our families donate one new item for the silent or live auction. Alternatively, families could make a monetary donation that will be used to purchase auction items. Please return this acquisition form with your item to the school office by Friday, October 29.

Examples of popular items needed for the auctions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Current tech items (Bluetooth or smart speakers, video games, earbuds, etc.)
  • Small kitchen appliances (expresso machine, panini maker, air fryer, etc.)
  • Time at personal vacation homes
  • Sports or movie tickets
  • Handmade items
  • Legos
  • Gift cards or certificates (local attractions, dining, and entertainment, etc.)
  • Baked goods

Spread The Word

Invite friends and family to the auction—and spread the word on social media and in your other circles of influence. A Facebook event has been created for the auction on the school’s Facebook page.

Serve As A Volunteer
Third, we will be looking for volunteers. If you are interested in helping collect items, set up, tear down, or in some other auction-related capacity, please simply email our School Board chair indicating your interest. A volunteer coordinator will follow up and get you plugged in.

Become A Sponsor
Finally, you can be an auction sponsor or distribute this letter to someone who might be interested in helping sponsor the event. Supporting the auction provides a powerful way for you to express your support for the students and faculty of Lima Christian School and the importance of Christian education. A sponsorship form is available here.

Thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to mail or drop off donations directly to the school, or we can also arrange for a donated item to be picked up at your convenience. If you have any questions about the annual benefit auction, please do not hesitate to contact our School Board at Board@LimaChristian.org.

Thank you for praying and working toward a prosperous event! We look forward to seeing you there.

NYSPHSAA Names Lima Christian A ‘School of Distinction’

Lima, NY—The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Inc. (NYSPHSAA) has announced its 2020-21 Scholar-Athlete School of Distinction award winners. Lima Christian School is among them.

The purpose of the School of Distinction award is to unite varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide academic honor. This year, only 64 schools among the 731 districts across New York State earned the School of Distinction Award. Schools can apply for School of Distinction status by having 100% of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award during their respective sports seasons.

“Lima Christian’s athletic program has always emphasized more than just competitive sports. Our coaches instill character in our student athletes. Sports is a wonderful vehicle for helping young men and young women learn about discipline, teamwork, and dedication to a higher goal. As a Christian school, we encourage our students to do all to the glory of God. It’s true in athletics, academics and every area of life,” said Mr. Michael Burns, Lima Christian’s Athletic Director.

Lima Christian School will be presented a certificate and a commemorative award at the local athletic director workshop this fall.

The full list of School of Distinction winners is available here.
